Tip Four: Pie chart of resilience

TIP FOUR – PIE CHARTS OF RESILIENCE ☀️

Here we use art for self discovery and wellbeing. We use it to help us understand and honour the resilience we already have, and that our current struggles may have made us forget. We realise how far we have already come and how much strength we inherently have.

This is just as much an exercise in being vulnerable as it is an exercise to help you realise and build your resilience. Vulnerability is showing the world parts of yourself that aren’t perfect and it is the birthplace of courage. It is really powerful because when we share our stories, we allow other people to feel seen and heard too.

Tools you need:

  • 2 pieces of paper (one to reflect on, one to make the pie chart on)
  • A pen or pencil
  • Colouring in pencils, water colours or paints

Reflection Questions:

Think about what you’ve already been through in your life and then consider the following:

  • How did I help myself get through these challenges?
  • What tools do I now have because I overcame these difficulties?
  • In addition to the bigger things I’ve gone through, what are some funny, embarrassing, or awkward experiences that have also built my resilience?
  • What are some little things that make up a bad day for me and how do I push through them?
  • Have I had any really difficult years in my life? Any longer struggles that have taken time to overcome? What have I learned from these?
  • What have past hurts taught me about my own resilience?

You can make some events bigger than what others may think they’ll be due to experiencing them over a long period of time. You can use colours that hold significance over certain challenges. The way you design the pie chart is completely up to you.

You can do this activity once a week, at every change in season, or yearly. The frequency is up to you and the benefit you get from completing it. There is no one right way to do this.

Have fun & tag us @mindfitnewzealand in your resilience pie charts if you choose to share them!

Remember there is more in YOU.

When we hide who we are both us and the people who love us lose.
